It was my awareness of and passion to support positive social change that prompted my getting my Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from the University of Chicago. I have now been a mental health therapist for about 15 years, practicing as a psychotherapist in a variety of settings including: therapeutic treatment schools for adolescents, domestic violence shelters, community mental health centres, residential programming and private practice.
My private practice has now grown into Simplevolution Therapy Centre. My practice offers individual, couples and family therapy in need of a variety of services. In my practice, I hope to continue to support people who are looking for quality therapy without paying an arm and a leg for it. This foundation is how I base my fees both for sessions themselves as well as in the DBT Program I offer.
I specialize in trauma, personality disorders, abuse, and adolescent/youth treatment. In addition to creating a Trauma-informed Clinical Model for an adolescent therapeutic school, I trained in various psychotherapies including Sensorimotor, CBT, DBT, Psychodynamic, Family Systems & Trauma-based Treatment to name a few. To provide you with my best treatment, my learning is ongoing both professionally & personally.
I look forward to meeting & working with you.

My pursuit of working with youth in the justice system revealed a calling for counselling and psychotherapy. Following my undergraduate studies, I worked with youth and their families in the context of addressing mental health and emotional issues. I then completed an MA in Counselling Psychology and worked as an Addictions Counsellor and Family Therapist.
With 10+ years of experience, I have worked in public and private schools, grassroots not-for-profit organizations, multifaceted social service organizations, as well as residential mental health and addictions treatment centers. My clients have ranged from youth and adults, to families and couples.
My approach to this work has a strong foundation in CBT. I am client-centered, solution-focused, while being influenced by psychodynamic and systemic ideas. As I am training to become an EMDR therapist, I am presently certified to treat clients who exhibit symptoms of simple PTSD and trauma related dysregulation. By the fall of 2017, I will be able to treat symptoms of complex PTSD and dissociative disorders.
I believe that everyone has the ability to create the change that they want for themselves and that positive action leads to fantastic results and increased life satisfaction. I am committed to you, your health and well-being through working collaboratively on creating goals towards a better and more satisfying life.

I am delighted to be a part of Simplevolution as a therapist working with adults, youth, children and families. My background and education are quite diverse and linked by my passion for the pursuit of social justice and a deep desire to help people make positive change in their lives. I graduated from Dalhousie Law School in 1994 and from the University of Toronto with a Master’s Degree in Social Work in 1999. I have worked as a lawyer, policy analyst, social worker, and clinical therapist in the areas of human rights and employment, child welfare, children’s mental health, and services for children with special needs. I have also been a stay at home parent of three busy kids.
I am trained in a variety of treatment approaches including cognitive-behavioural, emotionally focused, mindfulness-based, family systems, and psychodynamic therapies. My work is strongly influenced by research into brain functioning such as neuroplasticity and what it tells us about how experiences and our responses to our experiences can impact our functioning, and how psychotherapy can tap into human beings’ incredible ability to change and grow. I also have a deep understanding of High Functioning Autism (Asperger’s), the self-regulation and social struggles of neurologically diverse individuals (people with ASD, ADD & ADHD, Learning Disabilities and Giftedness), and the challenges of parenting children with these and other special needs.
My aim as a therapist is to work collaboratively with you to help you make the changes that you want to make. In therapy, I integrate treatment approaches that have been shown to be effective and share up-to-date and accurate information from research about ways to improve mental health and well-being. Above all, I will work with you to help you clarify your own goals and to access your own strengths to make positive change in your life.

My passion for Psychology comes from my experience working with children and adolescents with mental health issues. I knew that I would be able to effect more change by furthering my education which is why I am currently finalizing my Masters Degree in Counselling Psychology and completing my supervised hours at Simplevolution Therapy Centre.
After completing my undergraduate Psychology degree from York University in 2004, I was eager to gain more hands on experience working with children and youth so I earned a diploma in Child and Youth Work from Humber College graduating in 2006. I have ten years of experience working with children and adolescents with a variety of needs including bipolar disorder, autism, developmental disabilities, psychosis and borderline personality disorder. I have worked in a variety of settings including: residential treatment centres, day treatment programs, in-patient units and school and home based settings.
I specialize in working from a behaviour therapy background with training in CBT, as well as Behaviour Therapy. I believe in a holistic approach to treatment, considering the person as a whole. In addition to my training as a counsellor, I am also a qualified Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction teacher from the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Centre for Mindfulness. To provide you with the best treatment, my learning is ongoing both personally and professionally through attending conferences, seminars and other professional development opportunities. I am committed to working alongside you to improve your health and wellbeing.
